Lakshmi is one of the trinity of the Tri-Devis. She is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, luxury, prosperity, purity, generosity, beauty, fertility, and auspiciousness. Mata Lakshmi is also called ‘Shri’; she is referred to as a mother besides a goddess. She is the epitome of beauty, grace and charm.

The other half of goddess Lakshmi is Vishnu also known as Narayana, the protector god among the tri-devs, Lord Vishnu is also referred to as Hari, the remover. He is the “Shyama Sudarshana”, the dark-complexioned beautiful lord.  The dark colour of the Lord represents the passive and formless ether. He rests on the bed of the giant, coiled serpent, Seshanag, who represents the sleeping universe.

During the churning of ocean bed several materialistic objects came out and Goddess Lakshmi was one out of them, she was the daughter of the sea god. On seeing the extremely beautiful goddess Lakshmi drapped in red saree with pots of gold and sitted on the lotus flower, the Devas and the Asuras stopped churning and simply gazed at her. The Goddess with a garland in her hand chose Lord Vishnu as her husband.

Lakshmi is the active energy of Vishnu, in every yuga with a new incarnation of Lord Vishnu, goddess Lakshmi also takes human form. To exhibit the world what love and compatibility is. In Dwapara yug when Vishnu incarnated as Shri Ram, goddess Lakshmi took the form of Janaka-nandini Sita, the true form of sacrifice and a completely devoted wife. In Treta yug when Vishnu took the form of Krishna, mata Lakshmi was born as Rukmini. Another form of Lord Narayan, in the Kalyug is of the Lord Jagannath, who again has goddess Lakshmi as his consort.
